Also for some reason in 2033 there are keys in the levels that you can use to open safes but in Last Light there aren’t keys anymore instead the safes are all open.Īfter I played Last Light for the first time I really enjoyed it and after playing 2033 I think this franchise became one of my favorites. As promised yesterday, we now have the head to head comparison for the remastered version of Metro Last Light. I played in normal Ranger mode in these playthroughs and I think this is the way these games should be played, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be and not having the HUD just made the games more immersive, there is one difference between the ranger mode in these games, in 2033 you can see your bullets by holding a button and your health doesn’t regenerate, but in Last Light you can’t see your bullets unless you’re in a station where you can’t fight, but your health regenerates.

You can also use military-grade rounds (which are the currency in the game) as ammo to do a lot more damage in exchange for money. Enemies take one bullet to kill if you shoot them in the head but when you shoot them anywhere else they can take a lot and it seems almost random when I sometimes need 3 shotgun shells to kill an enemy in front of me. There are some quick-time events in both games but they feel out of place because they’re so rare. In Metro 2033 you go to a library at one point and get into a room without a way out and you have to destroy a bench that’s blocking another door so you can get out, but it’s the first time you can destroy anything in the environment so I got stuck in that room for a while in both playthroughs. It’s kinda stupid in Last Light when you walk into a puddle you get water splashed all over your mask even if you barely touch it. I also like the fact that you have to charge your flashlight and swap your air filters and how it doesn’t get in way of your fun, also being able to run while reloading your weapon, healing, recharging your flashlight, swapping air filters makes the combat a lot more fun, another cool thing I forgot until the end of 2033 is that the flame of your lighter leans in the direction of your objective, which lets you know where to go without having to pull out your clipboard with your objective and compass although you can’t run while holding the lighter. In some FPS games if someone sees you or hears you everyone automatically knows where you are, here if you kill the people who saw or heard you you’re fine and even if you fire your weapon everyone nearby will notice but they won’t know exactly where you are and it’s pretty fun to go around in the darkness killing everyone while they’re looking for you, although it’s pretty stupid how you can stand right in front of an enemy and they won’t notice you as long as you’re in the darkness. I really like the gameplay here, Stealth is surprisingly good for an FPS, and it’s the best way to play. It’s also weird how Artyom speaks during the loading screens before each mission but doesn’t say anything during the game, so you’ll have people talking to him without him saying anything and they sometimes speak as if he actually answered. In Last Light I feel like the relationship between Anna and Artyom develops too fast, she goes from treating you like a moron to loving you after you meet again. I like the story, it’s nothing amazing but it’s still pretty good, better in Last Light in my opinion, some characters are pretty forgettable, and Hunter who gives you a reason to leave your station in 2033 is only there for like 10 minutes even though he’s supposed to be important to the story. It’s really awesome how they manage to make the surface just as dangerous as the metro if not more.

The thing I like the most about these games is without a doubt the atmosphere, like the cramped dark metro tunnels, the metro stations crawling with hunger and poverty and hearing the people’s stories about the metro and the other stations, and the surface where you can’t breathe without a gas mask and mutated monsters rule. I first bought Metro: Last Light a few years ago after seeing it online and thinking it was pretty cool, and I got 2033 Redux this year on PC, this is the third time I finish Last Light and the second time for 2033.
